Our panel, “Voices Across the Archipelago: Translation and Textual Cultures in Indonesia,” highlighted the rich diversity of textual traditions across the Indonesian archipelago: 

  • Fadhli Lukman discussed Surau Texts Translated: Translation in Form, Textual Analysis in Substance, focusing on the Malay–Minangkabau tradition. 

  • Keiko Kamiishi presented Writing Reverence: Honorific Practices in Javanese and Balinese Kakawin Translations. 

  • Mery Tambaria D. Ambarita explored Batak oral culture in her talk, Peeling Back the Layers: Exploring the Batak Proverb “Nipis mantat neang, hapal mantat dokdok”.
